The vast majority of today's cheaply produced modern microphones use inferior internal components and inexpensive capsules that sound harsh, peaky and sibilant. Using a camera lens analogy -- with a fantastic lens, you receive a fantastic image. With a cheap lens, your voice is left underexposed, distorted and lacking detail. After 20 years of recording voices, I know that the wrong microphone robs a singer of their true potential. The same is true when recording all other instruments as well. Start with the best lens possible.
I source parts from all around the world in order to produce microphones that will showcase your talents rather than stand in the way of your inner magic. If you are not sure which microphone to choose, I recommend starting your journey with a CMM-8412 large diaphragm condenser which is based off of a vintage Neumann design and features a C-12 style capsule. This mic blows away mics costing thousands more and is my personal favorite. In blind shootouts, my clients prefer this mic over a modern Neumann U87.

Our CMM V251 is an ultra premium microphone inspired by the legendary Telefunken ELA M 251 which is widely regarded for being one of the greatest microphones of all time. I find it to be incredible on female vocals. It is also amazing for male voices in the mid and higher registers. The best way to describe this sound is full bodied with beautiful tube coloration, ultra rich harmonic content and an airy top end. This mic is meticulously crafted to perfection utilizing an ultra premium handmade brass capsule, custom wound transformer, a hand selected NOS tube and all premium internal components. Drawing inspiration from a vintage Schoeps style design and featuring "new old stock" components alongside a premium Telefunken capsule, our FET-51 microphone offers a highly transparent and focused sound. Experiment with the omni pattern to add room depth or stick with the cardioid setting for increased focus. I use this mic primarily for layering background vocals but it is also great on acoustic instruments and as a drum overhead mic.
